Department of Music
The University of Fort Hare Music Department was founded in the early 1970’s and holds strong to the principle that applied learning forms a central part of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered.
Between the Alice Campus and the newly built East London Campus at the Miriam Makeba Centre of Performing Arts, the department has continued to evolve and built a reputable placing as a centre of excellence in research and in performance practice.
Tuition offering in the Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts in Music degrees include African Music, Western Classical and Jazz. Postgraduate degrees are offered by dissertation.
In 2014 specialisations in Music Technology and Arts Management formed part of the degree streams.
